Most lacrosse sports bets will be placed when the major tournaments are taking place, but there are options to bet on some of the smaller league games too.
It is thought that Lacrosse is one of the oldest sports to be played in North America. It is known that it was being played in 17th century Canada. This is a team sport and players use a stick to pass, carry and shoot the ball.
There are different versions of the game including field lacrosse, box lacrosse and women’s lacrosse. The men’s games are contact versions so the players will often be dressed in protective gear such as elbow pads. For the women’s game, there is no body contact permitted. Protective eye wear is used though.
Each lacrosse team will have a total of 10 players. One of these is the goalkeeper, then there are three players defending, three in the midfield and three in the role of attackers. The lacrosse stick used will either be a long or short stick.
Only four of the team are allowed to use the long version of the stick, although this is in addition to the goalkeeper, who is permitted to use either of these. As with other team sports, the winner is the one that has scored the most goals at the end.
A few lacrosse rules
If the final score of the match is a draw, there is the option to put the game into ‘Sudden Victory Overtime’. This is a period of extra time and it is the first team to score a goal that will win the match. The game itself consists of four quarters. Each of these will last for 20 minutes. If a team chooses to call a time out then the game is paused. If a player is found to have infringed a rule of the game they can be placed in a penalty box for a short period of time.
