If you are into golf, this following sentence should bring a wave of excitement: It’s Masters week.

Masters Week: A Spectacle of Golf's Finest

That’s right, the first men’s golf major of the year will tee off on Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club.

Last year, Jon Rahm claimed the green jacket, defeating Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson by four strokes.

Since that win, Rahm made the move to LIV Golf, where fellow former Masters winners Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Bubba Watson also all defected to, as well as five-time major winner Koepka.

As a result, he didn’t defend his titles at the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express, and the Genesis Invitational.

But this week, we’ll get to see Rahm, Koepka, and the other qualified LIV members mixing it up with 2022 Masters winner and current world number one Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and the rest of the PGA Tour’s best.

Will Rahm become just the fourth golfer to record consecutive Masters wins and the first since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002? Or will he present someone else with the green jacket?

Who Are the Favorites to Win the Masters?

Scheffler has been ranked either #1 or #2 in every world rankings update for over two years now, and he has held the top spot since the end of May of last year.

Rankings aren’t always indicative of who’s in the best form at the moment, but Scheffler is indeed the best golfer in the world right now.

Last month, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship, and he came up just short of making it three wins in three events played at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he finished a stroke behind winner Stephan Jager.

The Masters remains the only thing missing from McIlroy’s glittering career resume. Will this be the year the four-time major winner finally wraps up his career Grand Slam?

Last year, McIlroy missed the cut at Augusta for just the third time in 15 Masters appearances. The previous time he did that (2021), he finished second the following year, three strokes behind Scheffler.

Moving to LIV Golf didn’t alter Koepka’s ability to contend at and win majors, and it shouldn’t hinder Rahm’s chances either.

Of the top seven favorites to win the Masters this year, Schauffele is the only one who has yet to win a major. He does, however, own an Olympic gold medal, which he won at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Schauffele also hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2022, when he won the Genesis Scottish Open.

However, he has been in solid form thus far this season, recording four top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes in eight events, including a tie for second behind Scheffler at the Players Championship.

It’s only a matter of time before he wins again, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it is at Augusta, where he finished tied for second in 2019 and tied for third in 2021.

Koepka has five major wins, but he is two majors short of the career Grand Slam, as all five of his wins are at the PGA Championship (2018, 2019, and 2023) and U.S. Open (2017 and 2018).

But he is a familiar presence near the top of leaderboards at majors, recording 18 top-ten finishes (14 top-five finishes) in 38 major appearances. Three of those top tens are at the Masters, where he finished tied for second in 2019 and 2023 and tied for seventh in 2020. Odds are he will be up there somewhere again this week.

When is the Masters this year?

Where is the Masters played?

Since the tournament’s inception in 1934, it has been held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

How can I watch the Masters?

ESPN, as it has since 2008, will broadcast the first two rounds of the Masters. CBS, which has televised the tournament since 1956, will air the final two rounds.
